Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal is really enjoying his time in county cricket.
“I was nervous in the first match and that’s why may be I hesitated to let my bat swing. But after my second match where I scored 47 runs, I guess I am doing fine, keeping my team happy now,” the left-handed batsman told daily sun on Wednesday.
On Tuesday night, people in Bangladesh had their eyes on the television to watch the battle between Nottinghamshire and Worcestershire in Friends Life T20 Championship which featured Tigers captain Shakib Al Hasan and his deputy Tamim go head to head.
“We were having fun on the field. The day before the match, me and Shakib were together the whole time at his home but we rarely talked about the upcoming game.”“On the field we both tried to be as professional as possible. The time he dropped my catch near the boundary, he gave me a frustrated look and I smiled back to him. Later the same thing happened again but this time I caught him nearly at the same position where he dropped my catch (laughs),” said Tamim.
Besides the Shakib and Tamim clash in the county, for the first time in Bangladesh’s cricketing history, three registered players of Dhaka Premier League were playing in a match. The other was Worcestershire’s Moeen Ali.
“It is indeed a good sign for Bangladesh cricket. Three cricketers who played in Bangladesh domestic are playing county is a huge thing to happen.”
“After coming to play county I realised one thing. The cricketers here are highly interested in Bangladesh cricket nowadays and I have interacted with some of them who actually want to participate in our domestic competitions, which I think is a huge opportunity to promote Bangladesh cricket,” said Tamim.
