Selectors preferred newcomers Nasir Hossain and Shuvagata Hom ahead of Ashraful, who averaged 8.75 in his last 16 one-dayers, and Razzak and handed Naeem Islam and Roqibul Hasan a recall.
Ashraful had made a fifty in Bangladesh’s last Test match against Zimbabwe, but it did not have any impact on the selectors, who emphasised on the current form of the players. Despite his return to form in the warm-matches he scored only two runs in the first two one-dayers and was benched for Tuesday’s third game.
Razzak also had to be benched after he went wicketless in the first two ODIs. Left-arm spinners Elias Sunny and Sohrawardi Shuvo will join Sakib al Hasan, who is expected to lead Bangladesh’s spin attack in Tests.
The Test squad also had no room for Shafiul Islam, though he was not as bad as Razzak and Ashraful in ODIs. Shafiul, who claimed
2-21 in Tuesday’s final one-day international against the visitors, was replaced by Shahadat Hossain.
The Test series begins on Friday in Chittagong, where Bangladesh skittled West Indies out for 61 runs and romped to an eight-wicket win in the third ODI.
The second Test will be held in Dhaka from October 29 to November 2.
Squad: Mushfiqur Rahim (captain), Tamim Iqbal, Imrul Kayes, Sakib al Hasan, Roqibul Hassan, Naeem Islam, Nasir
Hossain, Shahriar Nafees, Rubel Hossain, Nazmul Hossain, Shahadat

Ashraful should be taken in team because he was the best performer in our last test.
